"An Unwilling Recruit"

Work is progressing well on my third book, "An Unwilling Recruit".  This is my first fictional novel and I hope to have it finished and published by the end of this month.  In preparation for that I offer you all a little taster of what is to come.  I hope you enjoy.

Suddenly a single shaft of light erupted from above the dance floor creating a near solid beam to the floor at its center.  At the same time the silence was rudely shattered by the dramatic sounds of classical music.  It was a classic arrangement of string and brass taken from the fourth movement of Anton Bruckners’ eighth symphony.  A steady rhythm that built rapidly towards a natural crescendo.
As the music played, the excitement level within the room increased, all eyes turned towards the center of the dance floor where a hole gradually opened, almost two meters in diameter, the radius of the single light increasing to match it’s dimensions.

There was obviously some form of riser beneath the dance floor as, amidst smoke and light a figure began to rise up through the opening.  She stood erect with head bowed.  As the smoke slowly dissipated Hunt was able to make out more details.  She was small and slim, almost waif like, her arms hanging loosely by her side.  Dressed only in what appeared to be a single piece of diaphanous silvery material, draped over her left shoulder and tied loosely at the waist, there was very little to hide her slender figure.  The material sparkled in the steady light and was completely open at the sides revealing large expanses of pearly white flesh.  Her rich red locks hung in loose swathes, flowing like rivers of fire across her shoulders and back.
